The Cyprus Problem among the Issues Discussed at Jerusalem Conference

 

The Cyprus problem was one of the topics discussed at an important conference focusing on US and EU approaches on issues concerning the Middle East.  Entitled “Bridges Over the Mediterranean? European and American Perspectives”, it was organized by the Institute for European Studies of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem on 7-8 June 2004.  The issues discussed also included security and cooperation in the Mediterranean and Euro-Turkish relations.  A high caliber panel of speakers was made up of high-ranking officials, academics and analysts from the US, the EU, France, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, Israel and Cyprus.  The guest speaker from Cyprus was Professor Andreas Theophanous, Director General of the Research and Development Center – Intercollege, who addressed the theme “The Accession of Cyprus to the EU and Broader Implications.”
