Unit of Environmental Studies

The Unit of Environmental Studies of the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs, following the recent establishment of the University of Nicosia, is expanding its activities even more by developing an international network for studies in the promotion of sustainable development and the environment.

The Unit is currently active in the Leonardo da Vinci projects “Promoting Urban Sustainable Development in Local Authorities,” “Integrated Solutions for Vocational and Educational Training in Islands and rural Areas” and “e-Sun, Virtual Multimedia Training to Renewable Energies Installers.” Membership to these projects enables the Unit of Environmental Studies to create a network of contacts with organizations involved in environmental issues at the national, European and International level. The establishment of these contacts further enhances the Unit’s capability to offer services related to sustainable development and the environment.

The Unit also provides its scientific expertise to the Latsia Municipality in implementing the Interreg IIIB – Archimed project “Establishing a Media Observatory for Strengthening the Civil Protection in the Central and Southeastern Mediterranean Basin” and to the Cyprus Union of Communities in implementing the Interreg IIIB – Archimed projects “Management of Water Resources and Wetland Protection in Tourism Developing Areas” and “Mediterranean Risk Management.”

The establishment of the University of Nicosia is expected to positively affect the Unit’s operational capabilities by offering a rich academic environment in which to develop. In turn, recognizing the continuous assistance by the University of Nicosia and the support of its administration, the Unit also devotes its resources in continuously enhancing the overall environment and academic experience offered by the University of Nicosia by promoting sustainability and environmentally friendly practices at University Campuses which will further enhance the ever evolving dynamic of the unit.
