Events recently organized by the Research and Development Center - Intercollege
The Research and Development Center - Intercollege has organized a number of important events during the last two months including a book presentation, a policy paper presentation, a conference and a round table discussion.
A Round Table discussion entitled “The Cyprus Problem in a New Phase” was organized on October 18, 2004. Gregory Copley, President of the International Strategic Studies Association, USA, Andreas Theophanous, Professor of Political Economy, Intercollege, and Christos Iacovou, Assistant Professor of International Relations, Intercollege elaborated their views on the prospects for a settlement of the Cyprus question. Professor Vangelis Coufoudakis, Rector of Intercollege, was chairing the discussion.
Professor Andreas Theophanous’ new book “The Cyprus Question and the EU: The Challenge and the Promise” was presented on November 11, 2004. The event began with a welcoming address by Dr Michalis Attalides, Dean of the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, Intercollege, followed by presentations of the book by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Mr George Lillikas and Professor Vangelis Coufoudakis, Rector of Intercollege. Journalist Andreas Hadjikyriacos was in the chair.
A Conference on “The EU Constitution and the Prospects for Further Enlargement and Special Relationships” was organized on November 15, 2004. Presentations were made by Michalis Attalides, Dean of the School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, Intercollege, Adriaan Van Der Meer, Head, The Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus, Andreas Theophanous, Professor of Political Economy, Department of International Relations, Intercollege, and Nadia Arbatova, Head, Department of European Studies, IMEMO, Russian Academy of Sciences. The welcoming address was made by Henrik Kroner, Secretary General, European Movement, International Secretariat, Belgium. Sessions were chaired by Christodoulos Pelaghias, President of the European Movement – Cyprus Council and Farid Mirbagheri, Associate Professor of International Relations, Dialogue Chair in Middle Eastern Studies, Department of International Relations, Intercollege.
Finally, a presentation of the policy paper “Higher Education in Cyprus Before and After Accession: Legal and Financial Prospects” prepared by Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou (PhD cand.), Lecturer, Law Department, Intercollege was held on Thursday, 18 November 2004.
