Overall objective(s):

  • Contribute (a) towards decreasing the possibility of further conflict or crises and (b) towards creating more efficient peace-building and reconciliation measures

  • Increase communication and thus understanding of the ‘other’ in order to, inter alia, identify sources and causes of mistrust and/or tension

  • Create mechanisms for pragmatic policy advice to regional and international institutions on crisis anticipation/prevention/responses/resolution, peace building, and reconciliation.

  • Create a long-term network and early warning system through which the involved stakeholders will receive reports on developing issues and problems, to allow the relevant institutions to act pre-emptively and efficiently to devolve any crises

Specific objectives:

  • Organization of roundtables to assemble primarily a bi-communal network with influential individuals and organization from several fields

  • Creation of a database for the development of a bi-communal network with experts, who in turn will be part of the early warning system which will aim at preventing ‘conflictual situations’.

  • Establishment of a policy-paper generating unit to help disseminate the roundtables’ results through academic papers and/or newspapers, books, etc.

  • Form an advisory unit, which will generate reports for the Cyprus-problem-involved stakeholders

  • Create grounds for mutual understanding and cooperation in specific fields (e.g. environment, preservation of monuments, energy, water supply, trade, etc)

  • Creation of website which with the information of all participants, which would also allow the actors involved to raise their concerns for potential problems.
